The Book of Ephesians
The book of Ephesians is one of my favorite books that explains who Jesus is.
In God's love, He chose the elect in Christ and selected us for Himself as His own. Before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined and planned for us to be adopted to Himself as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will-- to the praise of His glorious grace and favor, which He so freely bestowed on us in Jesus Christ.
In Him we have redemption, deliverance and salvation through His blood. The blood of Jesus paid the penalty for our sin and resulted in the forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of His grace which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and understanding, He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, when we heard the word of truth, the good news of salvation, and as a result believed in Him, we were stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. Now we are owned and protected by God. The Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of God’s own purchased possession, His believers.
May the eyes of your heart be enlightened and flooded with light by the Holy Spirit. Than you will know and cherish the divine guarantee, to which He has called you. You will begin to know the immeasurable, unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in us who believe. In accordance with the working of His mighty strength which He produced in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age and world but also in the one to come. God put all things in every realm in subjection under Christ’s feet, and appointed Him as the supreme and authoritative head over all things in His body, the church, the fullness of Him who fills and completes all things in all believers.
We have been made alive. Before Christ we were spiritually dead and separated from Him because of our transgressions and sins we once walked in. We come into this world following the ways of this world, influenced by this present age and in accordance with the prince of the power of the air. Satan is the one at work in the disobedient, unbelieving and those who fight against the purposes of God. We were once governed by the passions of our flesh, indulging the desires of human nature. Without the Holy Spirit we follow after the impulses of the sinful mind. The flesh is our behavior that is controlled and governed by our sinful self. We were, by nature, children under the sentence of God’s wrath, just like the rest of mankind. But God, was so very rich in mercy, because of His great and wonderful love with which He loved us. Even when we were spiritually dead, on our way to hell and here on earth we were separated from Him because of our sins, He made us spiritually alive together with Christ. By His grace and mercy, you can be saved from God’s judgment. He raised us up together with Him when we believed, and seated us with Him in heavenly places, because we are in Christ Jesus. He did this so that in the ages to come He could clearly show the immeasurable and unsurpassed riches of His grace through His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus by providing for our redemption.
It is by God’s compassion and favor drawing you to Christ that you have been saved and delivered from judgment and given eternal life through faith. This salvation is not of yourselves not through your own effort, but it is the undeserved, gracious gift of God. It is not as a result of your works. Nor is it a result of your attempts to keep the Law. No one will be able to boast or take credit in any way for his salvation. We are the product of His workmanship, a work of art, created in Christ Jesus. We have been reborn from above--spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used for good works, which God prepared for us beforehand; to walk in His plans and live the good life He prearranged and made ready for us. In Him the whole structure is joined together, and it continues to increase growing into a holy temple in the Lord. We are to be a sanctuary dedicated, set apart, and sacred to the presence of the Lord. In Him and in fellowship with one another you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. The gospel of grace has made us coheirs of his promise through our union with him. And we have now become members of his body.
By constantly using our faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside of us, and the resting place of his love will become the very source and root of our lives. Then we will be empowered to discover what every holy one experiences—the great magnitude of the astonishing love of Christ in all its dimensions. How deeply intimate and far-reaching is his love! Endless love beyond measurement that transcends our understanding—this extravagant love pours into us until we are filled to overflowing with the fullness of God! Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He is able to do exceeding and abundantly above all that we could ever ask think or imagine according to His power at work within us. He alone deserves the glory!
Walk continually in love. Value one another. Practice empathy and compassion. Unselfishly seek the best for others. Just as Christ also loved us and gave Himself up for us as an offering and sacrifice to God. Sexual immorality and all impurity or greed must not even be hinted at among you. For With tender humility and quiet patience, always demonstrate gentleness and generous love toward one another, especially toward those who may try your patience. Be faithful to guard the sweet harmony of the Holy Spirit among you in the bonds of peace, being one body and one spirit, as you were all called into the same glorious hope of divine destiny . For the Lord God is one, and so are we , for we share in one faith, one baptism, and one Father. And he has appointed some with grace to be apostles, and some with grace to be prophets, and some with grace to be evangelists, and some with grace to be pastors, and some with grace to be teachers. And their calling is to nurture and prepare all the holy believers to do their own works of ministry, and as they do this they will enlarge and build up the body of Christ. For his body has been formed in his image and is closely joined together and constantly connected as one. And every member has been given divine gifts to contribute to the growth of all; and as these gifts operate effectively throughout the whole body, we are built up and made perfect in love. You should not live like the unbelievers around you who walk in their empty delusions. Their corrupted logic has been clouded because their hearts are so far from God—their blinded understanding and deep-seated moral darkness keeps them from the true knowledge God.
Become an imitator of God. Copy Him. As believers our way of life, whether in public or in private, reflects the validity of our faith. Let there be no filthiness and silly talk, obscene or vulgar joking, because such things are not appropriate for believers. Instead speak of your thankfulness to God. Be sure of this that no immoral, impure, or greedy person, for a greedy person is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God for such a person places a higher value on something other than God. For once you were darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light of God’s precepts, for it is light that makes everything visible. Make the very most of your time on earth. Recognize and take advantage of each opportunity and use it with wisdom and diligence, because the days are filled with evil. Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offer praise by singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord.
For wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. Each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. The wife must see to it that she respects and delights in her husband, that she notices him and prefers him and treats him with loving concern, treasuring him, honoring him, and holding him dear.
Husbands, love your wives. Seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love. Love her just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her. His plan is to sanctify the church, and cleanse her by the washing of water with the Word of God so that He might present the church to Himself in glorious splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy, set apart for God and blameless. Husbands should and are morally obligated to love their own wives as if it is their own body they are loving. With behavior worthy of respect and esteem, always seek the best for her with an attitude of lovingkindness.
If you honor your father and mother, things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth. Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free. Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don’t threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven.
Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers.
