Drowning Under Water
Updated: Feb 26
I was at the bottom of the ocean... rock bottom. With everything in me I tried to swim up to the top. There was little breath left in my lungs. There was nothing I could do to swim my way high enough to reach air. Unless a miracle took place I would surely die. Than I saw a window, radiating with light. I knocked on the window and a hand pulled me in and I was on dry land. I could finally breathe again. Someone had rescued me! They saved my life. I realized I could never go back to living under water. I knew I wasn't meant to live in that environment. This parable is a picture of how we all come into this world at rock bottom. Some spend their life trying to swim up to the top, but they never make it. Maybe they are following a false doctrine, following religion, chasing spirituality, the universe, rather than the Creator of the universe. Others don't care to find out if there is a way out and they make a home there. They survive by numbing the pain, ignoring thoughts of a God, ignoring thoughts of an after life. Maybe they focus only on how they can find happiness and prosperity in life. They can't see this life is only temporary and that we all have an appointed time where our life in our human bodies ends. Those who never allowed Jesus to be their Savior and their Lord, who never called on His name, who never knocked on the door of heaven will die.
Revelation 3:20 says "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
God made a way for us to spend eternity in heaven.
"In the beginning, the all-powerful, personal God created the universe. This God created human beings in His image to live joyfully in His presence, in humble submission to His gracious authority. But all of us have rebelled against God and, in consequence, must suffer the punishment of our rebellion: physical death and the wrath of God. Thankfully, God initiated a rescue plan, which began with His choosing the nation of Israel to display His glory in a fallen world. The Bible describes how God acted mightily on Israel’s behalf, rescuing His people from slavery and then giving them His holy law. But God’s people—like all of us—failed to rightly reflect the glory of God. Then, in the fullness of time, in the Person of Jesus Christ, God Himself came to renew the world and restore His people. Jesus perfectly obeyed the law given to Israel. Though innocent, He suffered the consequences of human rebellion by His death on a cross. But three days later, God raised Him from the dead. Now the church of Jesus Christ has been commissioned by God to take the news of Christ’s work to the world. Empowered by God’s Spirit, the church calls all people everywhere to repent of sin and to trust in Christ alone for our forgiveness. Repentance and faith restores our relationship with God and results in a life of ongoing transformation. The Bible promises that Jesus Christ will return to this earth as the conquering King. Only those who live in repentant faith in Christ will escape God’s judgment and live joyfully in God’s presence for all eternity. God’s message is the same to all of us: repent and believe, before it is too late. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved." -Trevin K Wax
"And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"
《Luke 11: 9-13》
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Many of the religious leaders in scripture had enthusiasm for God, but not proper knowledge of God. They were not submitting to the righteousness of God, but were trying to do it on their own. Many these days are still operating in this mindset. Imagine you are at the bottom of a very deep ocean with no scuba gear, nothing. There is no way you can swim to the top. There is no way you would survive. Through God sending Jesus to us He made a way for us. We must recognize His power and yield to His Lordship, believe in Him as Savior in your heart and confess out of your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
When a fish is taken out of the water it was created to live in, it can't survive. Our lives becomes a mess when we try to move away from the life God called us to live.
Throughout the book of Romans Paul talks often about the grace of God. Grace is God’s unmerited favor. If our salvation is based upon the grace of God it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise it would not be a gift, but a reward for works.
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
《John 1:12 》
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
We can believe the lie that many roads lead to heaven, we can follow religion that tells us to work our way to God. God's Word says we can't work our way to Him. We will never be good enough in our flesh, so He sent Jesus, the spotless lamb, to die in our place.
The devil has been twisting the Word of God in the minds of individuals since the garden of eden. Many are living in sin and claim to be Christians on their way to heaven. They have different arguments to justify their actions. You may have heard or have said yourself, "I'm doing better than that person; I'm a pretty good person", "God knows my heart". The truth is God and His Word remain unchanged. Many view Salvation as going up in front of the church and praying a prayer. Repentance leads to righteousness. There is a turning away from sin. Some will say it's by grace we have been saved, there for I can do whatever I want. If Holy Spirit truly lives in you, you've been birthed with a new nature. You have been born again. Some people's version of Christianity is to go to church on Sunday, pray before meals and maybe before going to bed and before a stressful task. Being a born again Christian, you have a desire within you to serve God. Your desires to please the flesh have been silenced.
"Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" 《Matthew 16:24-26》
When Jesus carried the cross, He carried our sin. Likewise we are called to carry our cross to the hill of Golgotha, surrendering all to Him. We can leave with victory, joyfulness and thankfulness in our heart. That moment you surrender it all is so powerful. You choose to never come back to the guilt, the failure, the old life. You let it go.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
We are all born with a sin nature. We are all born unrighteous. This is why we must be born again. By the law we are able to be made aware of the fact that we fall short of the standards of God in His holiness and righteousness. Now through our faith in Jesus Christ we are able to be declared righteous. We have no room to boast in our works of righteousness, because it was the grace of God who made a way for us. Abraham believed in God and it was accounted to him as righteousness. A worker on the job receives payment, because they earned it. However our salvation was given to us when we didn't deserve it, we received it through faith. We have received this undeserved favor of the blood of Jesus covering our sins, because of the grace of God.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." 《Romans 10:9-10》
"And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."
Through one man's disobedience, Adam, we were born with a sin nature. Through the obedience of Jesus and His one act of righteousness this resulted in justification. We can say "Jesus is Lord", but is He really YOUR Lord or is something else YOUR lord. To repent means to turn away from. Repentance in the Bible means to turn away from your sin and turn to Jesus.
"He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy."
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
《2 Peter 3:9》
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
God made a way for us to receive eternal life by sending Jesus as our propitiation.
Romans 5:18-19 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
He is a just God. The prodigal son (Luke 15) came to his senses at the pig stall; than he journeys back to his home. His father saw him from a far and ran to greet him. This was against the culture. God is willing to break through culture and tradition; to dig down in your dirt to save you. He has come to seek and save the lost. He has come to seek those drowning in religion, drowning in tradition, trying to work their way to heaven by their good works.
The devil will tell you; you are too sinful, you'll never be good enough. God says (Hebrews 8:12) "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." He is a, I don't care how far you ran, just come on home, kind of father. Imagine if you had a child who you loved greatly and they ran away from home to go live it up in the world. When they realize it was not worth running away from home, when they realize it didn't bring the joy and peace they were looking for and they come home with a broken sorrowful heart sorry for what they have done, I bet that parent would be rejoicing to know their child whom they thought was dead has come back home.
"But God commendeth (demonstrated) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
If you are on the fence if you believe in the God of the Bible, if you believe there could be many ways to heaven, if you aren't sure God even exists, start seeking Him with ALL your heart.
If anyone desires to come after Me let him deny himself. What does it mean to deny yourself? This means you decide to be totally obedient to Christ. This means you are seeking not your will to be done, but God's will to be done. We must present ourselves totally to God as a living and Holy sacrifice, not following any longer conformed to the ways of the world. It is a daily surrender to give up your will for God's. Laying down our will is when we choose to serve Jesus and surrender it all to Him. There is temporary, fleeting pleasure in sin, and we must deny that in order to follow the Lord.
"For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God."
The condition above us, the law, has now become under us. If your righteousness does not surpass the righteousness of the scribes and pharisees you can't enter the kingdom of God. God made a way through sending Jesus for us to obtain grace. Through Jesus we are redeemed and are now called to be heirs. We no longer have to be slaves, but a child of God, heirs with Christ. In fellowship and community with Holy Spirit.
"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory." 《Ephesians 1:13-14》
Do you realize you are a sinner and that there is no amount of good works you can do to earn eternal life? Do you know that Jesus died on the cross for your sins? Are you willing to repent and turn away from all your sins? Are you willing to come under the authority of the Word of God? Are you willing to begin a new life in Christ? Tomorrow is never promised. If you were to die today where would you go?
"behold, now is the day of salvation." 《2 Corinthians 6:2b》
Prayer: God I come to you in the name of Jesus. I realize I can not do enough good works to ever work my way into heaven. I thank You for sending your Son Jesus to die in my place that I may have eternal life. I choose to accept this gift and I ask Jesus to come into my heart to be my Savior and my Lord. I ask You to save me and cleanse me from all my sin, I repent for all my wrong doings, create in me a clean heart and renew a right Spirit within me and fill me with Your Holy Spirit in Jesus name Amen.
We received Jesus as Savior and it's an amazing piece of news. We've grown accustomed to it. He saved us. He is our Savior, but it's just the beginning. He needs to become Lord in our life. Everything begins with salvation. As a savior I receive Him into my life and into my inner being. The gospel of the kingdom contains the gospel of salvation, changing of the mindset, deliverance. The gospel of the kingdom changes people in this realm and the realm to come. You will have a reward in this age and the age to come. Many have an understanding of salvation, but live a barren fruitless life. We are to multiply, fill and have dominion and this is how the Father will be glorified. Grow into the condition where He is Christ; the Lord in your life. It will demand all of you. He can't be your Lord until you die to yourself.
Now you don't receive the gift of salvation and than immediately go to heaven. You must stay busy in the work of the Lord while on earth. Now you have God's Holy Spirit with in you, now you can stay fully armoured, and you must. Now you are called to lift the veil off the eyes of others that they may also see how God made a way through Jesus. So you must go back under water with protective gear, the full armor of God. That they may also see Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
